Local government honoured

Recipients of OBEs include Cllr Peter Wheeler (Lab, Cheshire West and Chester) for political service, and Terry Stacy JP, Head of the LGA’s Liberal Democrat Office, for services to the LGBTQ+ community.

There were also OBEs for services to local government for Dr Martin Reeves, Chief Executive of Oxfordshire County Council, and former Chief Executives Robert Walsh (North East Lincolnshire Council) and Carolyn Williamson (Hampshire County Council).

Cllr Clare Apel (Lib Dem), Chair of Chichester District Council, was made an MBE for services to the voluntary sector, local government and Holocaust education.

Additional MBEs included: Susan Parsonage, Chief Executive of Wokingham Borough Council; Cllr Cherry Povall JP (Con, Wirral); Cllr Dean Cohen (Con, Barnet); Cllr Tim Hall (Con, Surrey); and Cllr Jack Emsley (Con, Hounslow).

Poignantly, Cllr Robert Francis-Davies (Lab, Swansea) received an MBE for public service dated back to 6 May – days before he died, meaning it stands as an award he received in his lifetime.

Cllr Louise Gittins, LGA Chair, said: “Every one of you goes above the call of duty serving your communities, day in and day out, and these awards are a fitting tribute to the dedication, professionalism and public service shown.”
