A consultation has opened on government plans for a high-value council tax surcharge on residential properties worth £2 million or more in England.
Councils will be funded to administer the charge, but the revenue raised will go to the Treasury, to “help fund vital local government services and… to make the system fairer for households”. The LGA has previously called for any additional funding raised through the council tax system to be made available to support local authorities.
