From campaigning to governing

Since then, Reform’s footprint has grown significantly. We now lead three times as many administrations, giving us a stronger voice and greater responsibility to residents.

Our 2025 administrations have set a strong example, showing that Reform UK councils can govern responsibly, focus on residents’ priorities and make tangible improvements.

Our new administrations are engaging with the LGA, drawing on support and getting on with the job. I have no doubt they will build on that record.

“Reform UK councils can govern responsibly and make tangible improvements”

The successful campaigns that brought Reform UK councillors into office showed that the public wants change, including on difficult issues that others too often avoid.

The task now is to turn that mandate into action, with the same energy, clarity and relentless focus on the change residents trusted us to deliver.

That responsibility comes at a critical time. Local government reorganisation is moving at pace and scale, alongside reforms, financial pressure and rising demand.

Recent disclosures about Devolution Priority Programme decisions raise serious questions about whether government followed its own criteria and official advice.

Across the sector, councils, regulators and partners are raising concerns about timing, evidence, continuity and deliverability.

Through the LGA, and directly with government, we will press for evidence, safeguards and flexibility so reorganisation does not put vulnerable residents at risk.
