As I reach the 100-day milestone, I feel humbled and privileged to have been entrusted to represent you as Leader of the LGA’s Independent Group.
I’m committed to acting on your behalf to the best of my ability, and I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what we’ve achieved together so far.
Working alongside Deputy Leader Cllr Andrew Cooper and Treasurer Cllr Johnny Denis, we invited expressions of interest for the new LGA committees and a refreshed group executive. We received nearly 100 responses – an incredible show of engagement.
Many new members have now been appointed, bringing fresh expertise to the LGA’s policy committees and contributing meaningfully to key decisions, including on the upcoming English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill.
Your new group executive has begun reviewing our group’s vision and priorities, which we’ll share with you soon. We’ve also developed the theme of ‘Resilience’ for our annual conference in the new year, and I look forward to sharing more details shortly.
I’ve restarted fortnightly meetings with council leaders and deputies, contributed to the Future LGA programme via the LGA Company Board, supported Green Party colleagues at their annual conference, and engaged in strategic policy work, including on the LGA’s Budget submission.
I’m excited for the next 100 days, connecting with council leaders, opposition leaders and members across the country.
